DIRECTIONS TO HAINAULT FOREST

The A1112 can be accessed from the Eastern Avenue (A12) at the Moby Dick junction.

  • Transport for London operates Buses 247 and 362 which stop at the Foxburrow Road main entrance (Fowler Road stop). Bus 150 stops at Chigwell Row.

  • It will take about 30 minutes to walk up New North Road to the forest from Hainault Station (Central Line).


  • Parking is available in the forest. Both car parks near the Forest Centre use cashless payments using the RingGo parking app. No other payment methods are accepted.
  • There are two smaller car parks off Lambourne Road which are free of charge, but they get busy at peak times and spaces are very limited. These are located opposite the Miller and Carter at Lambourne End and near Chigwell Row Infants School.
  • Disabled Parking is free when a blue badge is clearly displayed in the vehicle's windscreen. There are disabled parking spaces, but if these are full you can park in any other available bay and display your blue badge to park free of charge. 
  • RingGo have a website if you require further information about parking in Hainault Forest.


  • The Nature Reserve is open from 7.00am (8.00am in December and January) until 30 minutes after sunset.

Thomas the Tank Engine

Thomas the Tank Engine aka the Hainault Forest Express can be caught near Foxburrow Barn for a circular trip within the confines of the Nature Reserve. This is usually around Hainault Lake, however the route is occasionally changed for operating and safety reasons. Journeys take approximately 20 minutes and cost £3* per person,  taking place every weekend and weekday during the school holidays between 10am and 5pm (depending on the weather). Thomas will always be chuffed to see you!
