Pheasant
Phasianus colchicus
Pheasants were brought to Britain by the Normans in the 12th Century. They are now widespread and common. Females (Hens) are brown and can be distinguished from partridges by being larger and having a long tail. Pheasants feed on seeds, grain, shoots and insects. The collective noun for a group is a 'Bevy'.
