Ransoms, also known as 'Wild Garlic', appears in ancient woodlands during April and May. It has a preference for shaded damp places. Most of the year it exists as a bulb underground only emerging in spring to flower. Rounded clusters of white flowers grow on long narrow stalks. The star-like flowers have six long narrow petals that taper to a point and six stamens bearing white anthers and white pollen. In the middle is a green three-lobed ovary.
Narrow oval leaves form around the base of the stem.
