Thrips are tiny winged insects known as 'Thunderflies' because they often fly in thundery conditions. There are roughly 150 species of Thrip found in Britain which are hard to identify to species without resorting to a microscope. Immature nymphs are wingless and normally creamy yellow or orange; the adults are usually darker. These Thrip larvae (1-2mm long) were living in cracks of a large beech tree on Dog Kennel Hill.
