Griever Sawfly
Dolerus sp.
Sawflies belonging to the genus Dolerus are usually all-black insects, commonly known as "grievers." They resemble other members of their genus, which makes it challenging to accurately identify them to the species level without a thorough examination, including checking the punctuation on the head and mesonotum. These sawflies are often located in damp grasslands and hedgerows. They generally emerge from April to June. The larvae of Dolerus species mainly feed on grasses and sedges.
