Leafcutter Bee

Megachile sp.

Britain has seven native species of leaf-cutting bees. Females use their jaws to cut precise, semi-circular sections from leaves to create cylindrical nursery cells for their offspring. They are solitary bees, each female takes on all the tasks of keeping a nest without the support of a large colony.
