Nursery Web Spider

Pisaura mirabilis

This species has a slender, brownish-grey body with a pointed abdomen. A pale central stripe runs along the upper side of its body. When at rest, it typically spreads its long legs flat against the surface of leaves. It is found in hedgerows and low vegetation, where it actively stalks its prey rather than capturing it in a sticky web. Females transport their egg sacs in their jaws before creating a distinctive, tent-like nursery web to safeguard the hatchlings.
