Hairy Fungus Beetle
Eulagius filicornis
Eulagius filicornis is a hairy beetle belonging to the Mycetophagidae family. It feeds on fungi and is typically found in association with decaying wood. This small beetle is characterised by its uniquely marked elytra and filiform antennae, which differentiate it from other species in the group. Records of this species are limited; there are only 67 nationwide entries available on the NBN Atlas, with the Essex Field Club holding 19 records for the county. This particular individual was found on a London Plane tree. These tiny beetles are between 3 to 4 mm long.
