Sycamore Tarspot

Rhytisma acerinum

Tarspot is a common fungal disease. It forms jet-black patches resembling drops of black tar outlined in yellow on the upper surface of sycamore leaves. The fungus is sensitive to sulphur dioxide so mainly grows in areas with clean air and low pollution. Trees are not normally harmed by this fungus.
