Oak Mazegill

Fomitopsis quercina

Oak Mazegill is a perennial polypore found on dead oak trees characterised by a maze-like pore surface. The brackets grow up to 20 cm in diameter and extend up to 8 cm from the substrate. The broadest section of the bracket remains attached to the substrate. Its upper surface appears cream, beige, or ochre and has a velvety texture, often featuring concentric growth rings. The edge of the bracket typically appears lighter than the rest of the upper surface. The fungus is so-named because its wide pores have a maze-like appearance.
