Nail Gall

Eriophyes tiliae

These galls are a result of mites which extract sap from the leaf surface and release chemicals that prompt the plant to create protective structures. The elongated growths, commonly referred to as 'nail galls,' usually range in colour from green to deep red and are found on the upper surface of lime tree leaves.
