ILFORD CARNIVAL
Sons of the Empire
Cranbrook Ward
1907
Cranbrook Ward's 'Sons of the Empire' celebrated the British Empire. At its height, the Empire governed more than 400 million people, making it the largest in history. Trade and political alliances were significant, but the Empire also led to land loss, discrimination, and prejudice for certain groups. While many countries benefitted from access to education, medical services, and railway systems, others experienced civil unrest.
