Musk Mallow
Malva moschata
has pink five-petalled flowers. They produce a faint musky aroma. When the flowers disappear in autumn they are replaced by seed pods. Plants grow up to one metre tall. The leaves are deeply lobed.
Common Mallow
Malva sylvestris is a biennial which means it takes two years to grow from seed to fruition and die. Flowers appear from June until September. They are mauve, dark-veined and funnel-like with five petals. It is a hairy plant that can grow up to 1.5 metres tall, however the hairy stems are frequently sprawling.
The five-lobed leaves are hairy.
Dwarf Mallow
Malva neglecta is a hairy, sprawling annual. Its lilac, dark-veined flowers (15-25mm) appear from May to September in dry waste habitats. The leaves are roundish or kidney-shaped
with very shallow toothed lobes.
