Caddisfly

Agraylea  sp.

There are over 20 identified species of Agraylea microcaddisflies within the family Hydroptilidae. Distinguishing between these species requires microscopic analysis. They are typically located in well-vegetated ponds, lakes, marshes, and slow-moving rivers, where their larvae feed on algae and aquatic plants. Microcaddisflies are notably smaller than standard caddisflies, with a typical length ranging from 1.5 to 5 mm. In contrast to most caddisfly larvae that construct portable protective cases for their entire life cycle, microcaddisfly larvae only create their purse-shaped cases during their final growth stage.
