Hedge Beauty

Alabonia geoffrella

This attractive day-flying species is commonly observed on hedgerows along woodland paths during sunny mornings in May and June. Males exhibit a distinctive rising and falling flight pattern. The larvae feed on the bark of decaying wood. Formerly known as the 'Common Tubic,' Moth recorders sometimes refer to this species as 'Geoff.'
